Alex Kipling

Trustee since 2003 and Chairman of the Board of Trustees since 2004

My completely random joining of Warwick Revelation in Autumn 1998 was perhaps the single best thing I ever did.  I meant to join the society at the stall next door and got chatting to the Revvers instead … the rest, as they say, is history.  My time at university was completely transformed by that decision and all my close friends, including many I still see regularly, were people I met through Rev.  I still sing in a gospel choir (having never even known what one was before university) and continue to enjoy it.  Revelation gave me the opportunity to be musical in a relaxed environment and develop as a singer, pianist and drummer (but certainly not as a trumpeter!) , but even more importantly, it gave me confidence to make friends and believe in my own abilities, musical and otherwise.

After being President of Warwick Rev and WiM Co-ordinator in 2000, being a Trustee gave me an opportunity to continue my involvement.  On an insignificant level, I am happy to help guide the growth of the organisation that gave me so much so that it can reach and touch as many peoples' lives as possible.

I am passionate about Rev but still try to bear in mind the importance of its students' grass roots and the laissez-faire approach of the Trustees.

My day-job is in an investment bank, so I hope to bring financial and managerial skills to Revelation.

Amanda Hibbs

Trustee since 2007

Amanda Hibbs - Revelation Rock-Gospel Choirs trusteeI had a baptism by fire into the Revelation family; went along to a rehearsal at the end of term in the first year, expecting to listen…performed in a cabaret two weeks later, attended WiM 2000 over the Christmas break and by the time I returned to college I was hooked!  In my second year I became National Rep for Cambridge which I really enjoyed, was on the WiM team, and conducted a song at WiM that year too!  In my final year I was choir president; we hosted a Southern Training Weekend that year and also hosted WiM so it was pretty busy for us on a National front as well as the usual performances.  One of my favourite achievements though was designing our first ever choir sweaters (I still have mine!)

Since leaving Uni I have worked as an assistant manager of a small children's charity in Bristol for 12 months, then moved to Hull and into recruitment consultancy for just over 2 years, and am now working as a project manager in HR & recruitment consultancy.  Hopefully some of my experience and contacts will be useful with regards to fundraising, organisation policies, structures etc., but as the most recent addition to the Trustee team I'm still coming up to speed.

I was one of the National Reps who got involved in electing the first board of trustees when Revelation National first got charity status.  At the time I remember thinking what a privilege and responsibility it was, so I feel really honoured to have been able to return to supporting Revelation in this way.

Trustee since 2008

Jess Baker

Trustee since 2009

Jess Baker - Revelation Rock-Gospel Choirs trusteeIt is freshers’ week at Bangor University. I was a music lover, away from home who walked into a welcoming, group of like-minded people. The year is 2001 and, although I didn’t know it this was the start of my very special Rev journey.

My Rev journey has taken me to some wonderful places. Aberdeen, Edinburgh, London, Cambridge soon to be Barcelona and oh yes, I nearly forgot….. Barbados!

I have made many friends, shared some wonderful memories and entertained some fabulous audiences in welcoming venues.

At first I sang, conducted, played the trumpet, drums and shook things in time with the music. I quickly became Music Co and three years later President. I then became involved with the National Rev Staff team as Resources and Merchandise Coordinator and then as Workshop Coordinator. Throughout this journey I have always held onto the welcome of my very first Rev rehearsal and the Aims and Values of this wonderful organisation.

Outside Rev I am still a “Muso” but also love sailing and I am a RYA qualified Senior Sailing Instructor. I live with my cat George Gershwin, in a small village ten miles south of Birmingham. I am a very active member of my local church. I sing and play in the worship group and also help to run the teens group.

I am thrilled to have become a trustee and to be playing a part in protecting the future of Rev. I am looking forward to actively continuing as Workshop Co, and being very much involved with future Rev events.

See you all at a Rev event in the future!
